Operation NOVEL: Season 1
An Anthological Devlog!
Hey, everyone! I know it's been a minute since our last devlog… like… a LOT of minutes, actually, but with N.O.V.E.L.'s anthology episodes being officially announced, we wanted to take a second and touch base.
So, let's do that!
Let's start off with addressing some concerns.
The Current Situation
Firstly, the retardedly huge amount of censorship going on across multiple platforms, sites, states, and countries.
As I'm sure you've all seen, Massa Visa and Massa Massacard are cracking the whip on anything that shows the faintest hint of tiddy.
Fortunately, we don't take payments anyway.
Unfortunately, Itch.io does… and they've sort of bent the knee.
So, with that going on, in combination with some pretty crazy state laws going into effect here in the USA that impact artistic freedoms, the main story of NOVEL is going to have to be put on hold until all the nonsense sorts itself out.
I know, I know, it's a bummer.
BUT with that being the case, we've decided to shift focus in the meantime and work on some cool little NOVEL anthology episodes, taking place at various points in the story's timeline.
What the hell is an "Operation G.A.M.E.N.I.G.H.T"?
First off: Operation: G.A.M.E.N.I.G.H.T
You'll get to meet some characters you haven't been formally introduced to in the main story yet, you'll get to see different sides to the characters you know...
...and ya know, you'll get to enjoy some fun little episodes.
We're also hoping to mess around with Canterlot Exchange a bit more often as well, so that will be fun.
Addressing Your Questions
Now, to address some questions I've seen in the comments.
Are you guys thinking of quitting the games?
No. As of right now we have no plans on quitting anything. We might have to switch a few things around if necessary, but we aren't quitting or taking down anything.
Is there another site you guys use to host the game?
Nope. This is it.
Where else can I go for updates and stuff on development?
I mean, me and Irrelevant post skits and other little tidbits to Twitter fairly often. And you can find our Twitter links on the game page, down in the team roster, but that's pretty much it.
And I think that's all the real major stuff that needed said.
So… yeah!
The main story is on hold for a while, and we're working on some fun little side episodes and stuff in the meantime.

Honestly I like your art and writing style too much to care too much about the game itself. Glad you're still continuing regardless of all the crazy stuff going on.
At the cost of maybe asking a stupid question, is there a specific reason for exclusively hosting the game on itch.io or is it just a 'no reason it's just how it be' type thing?

i never realized how bad i need to make a dnd campaign about this until now.
I respect the hustle and appreciate he has not bucking down from this fucking censorship bullshit as the world getting more and more retarded and they try to globally censor everything.
So I got to ask just out of my own paranoia, hypothetically what happens if the page goes down like itch io decides to bend a knee again. Would you be hosting the game on Twitter or another site or would you change it to appease the new rules as you say this is the only host.
The world is becomming a clownshow. And the US is the main attraction. I hope people arn't taking it as an offense, but it is the truth.
That being said, I appriciate the storyline and it's what keeps things together, but without the naughtiness it won't be the same. But thank you for trying to keep things alive.
Your skits are always fun, and I love the things you come up with. But I can't WAIT to get your next episode. I hope you find a way to work around Itch.io's bullshit
I mean for my part I never really had any doubts. The games y'all make are free, so it's always just been a matter of having a host. It could've been a google drive link on a twitter post for all that matters and that would suffice.
Anyways, at least spirits are high and I hope we'll be seeing Canterlot Exchange sometime next year.
I'm glad to know that all this censorship nonsense hasn't affected the studio in the least. The love they have for their games is evident, and as a loyal fan of this visual novel, I'm glad to know they haven't abandoned the project. Keep it up, dudes. You're amazing.

While Numbuh 10 is a Guild Lady and Mushi is a Oni. I wonder what type of DND Class is Numbuh 202?

Glad to know you guys are not giving up on this, even if the global situation is… more global than it was a couple of weeks ago, now that we also have to face more and more countries adding censorship/spying laws here and there.
Keep up the good work! I hope all of this ends up solving sooner or later.

I’m only answering now and here because, well, I guess it’s somewhat on topic because of the itchio purge and the censorship around the internet. We are on our website for now, any important new will be there, or in the in-game news section.

I know about the hate speech/UK censorship laws/Austrillia censorship laws/ etc
But this series has never been anymore offensive then Dragon Ball and I can still buy the dragon ball manga online, the uncensored one.
Eh, it's a lot of things. The game is still up, so we're still in the clear for NOVEL, for the same reasons that you stated. We'd rather just steer clear of getting into any kind of snafu's in the meantime, while all the legal stuff and whatnot gets sorted out.
ah fair enough, preventive measures. yes right now is a scary time for us creators of the weird. we're all a bit of the modern day versions of Robert Crumb I'd imagine.
