A (Not so) Soonish Devlog!

Well, I reckon it’s that time again. Devlog time! First off, I hope y’all have been doing alright the past month or two… or three... anyway! We have a pretty decent chunk of news to go over and we figured now was as good a time as any, so yeah.

And for the Twitter people: maybe I spoke a little too soon(ish) when I said soonish. But we’re here now! So let’s get started.

Right off the bat, lemme say that we’ve decided to go ahead and have Canterlot Exchange’s demo cover the first seven days of the game instead of the three we had originally planned. We figured giving y’all a full week of school and interactions would give you a much better taste of things to come and, ya know, it lets us squeeze more fun stuff in. So, there’s that. Now, with that said, let’s go over some stuff!

Art Assets: MisconTobiTobi90

Miscon and Tobi have both been whittling away pretty heavily at art assets.  Miscon has finished several character models and CG scenes,  and is currently working on brushing up on some details on the last couple needed for the demo. And Tobi has been working on knocking out some additional assets to flesh out the menus,  on top of getting backgrounds and whatnot sorted.

Music / Audio: RodrickScorpion

"Due to some limitations, there are times when I can't fully create something that I have in mind. Because of this, I try to compromise and make something close to what I want; usually, the final results are to my liking. Hopefully, it's to y'all's liking as well!

Here's a preview of one of the upcoming character tracks: Beauty Undefined

Programming & Nerd Sciences: Irrelevant

Blah blah blah, Irrelevant here, blah blah, techno-jazz, blah.

Anywho... This demo's been a whole different beast compared to our work on N.O.V.E.L., especially with all the visual effects we've been cookin' up. One of the biggest goals for this game is that we're tryin' to give y'all that same feel as watchin' the show, but with our own unique spin on things. After all, where's the fun in just copyin' what's already been done?

To accomplish our goals for the game, we've been adding in more characters, more places, more interactions... it's been a challenge, but hey, that's half the fun of it.

The good news is that the demo's in a stable state for now, and all the fancy bits are workin' as intended. We'll keep you posted on any hiccups we run into as we get closer to release.

So... yeah! Pretty cool.

"Dive, that wasn't too long-winded, right?"

Writing & Story: Anondive

Work on my end is coming along pretty well. I’m currently messing around with some player choices and different little scenarios, getting everything charted out, and talking over the sequence of events with the team. That way, when we’re finished with the episode of N.O.V.EL. we’re working on, I can jump right in and get script flowing heavy for Canterlot Exchange.

The only other thing I can think to really add to my little section here is that I’ve had a ton of fun so far messing with all the characters and figuring out everyone’s chemistry.

“Irrelevant, make this quote a hella cool font.”
"Nah."

Other Stuff!

Alright, now that we’ve gone over everything the team has been up to, let’s take a second to go over some, well, other stuff.

Time Schedule

Like I said up above in my section, we’re currently working on an episode of N.O.V.E.L. After that, we’re going to be putting full focus on getting the demo for Canterlot Exchange put together, quality checked, tested, quality checked and tested again, and ready for release. Honestly, I’m pretty stoked. Next!

Questions from the Comments!

On today’s very special episode of “Questions from the comments!”:

  • Are you taking money for the game?
    • Negative. We won’t be actively taking money for the game. No Patreon nonsense or anything like that. When the game releases there will be a little “name your own price” tip jar like we have for N.O.V.E.L that you can donate to if you feel like it, but it’s absolutely NOT a requirement, and if you feel like supporting the artists or composer as individuals, they have links beside their names in the team roster listed on the page.
  •   Will we be able to change Anon’s name in the game?

    • I already answered this one, but I figure it can’t hurt to go ahead and readdress it. Again, negative. Anon’s name and everything is set in stone. He is who he is, boss.
  • Make Derpy a romance option.
    • You can’t tell me what to do~.

Aaaaand that’s all for now! See y’all next time!

That's the plan, boss man. Since we'll be using the same engine as Operation NOVEL, this project will be distributed to the same platforms as well, which means Windows, Mac, and Android devices.
